Cut it to fit like you would fiberglass insulation in a house(tight pressure fit). In the fire box the bricks will keep it in. I had a few places that needed studs welded on to hold it in place but that was only above the arch door.

I'm wondering where you got your blanket from. I had done some research several months ago and priced out a 2'x25' roll at a warehouse somewhere in CT but I can't seem to find it again and I'd like to order one so I'll have it in a couple of weeks. I'll be installing my new evaporator on 3/8. Thanks.

Good to know...how long did it take for your order to come? It looks like they can ship from NJ some I'm wondering if it was relatively short. I'm worried that I would order it and have to wait for it to come.

Under my flue, I just fit it tight, and did not put any brick over top. It's been this way for 3 years, and it almost looks new. Saved on bricks, mortar, and time. I did place brick in the firebox though.

This is what I'm planning on doing - do you noticing any differences? I think others noted that the sides are "cooler" because the heat stays under the pan and also because the bricks are not there to hold heat that shut down and start-up are quicker. I'm hoping that the difference is good and I can eek out a few more GPH.
