I'm looking to add firebrick my evaporator. Do you guys recommend laying ceramic insulation down first, then placing the firebrick on top? My concern is that the ceramic blanket will just compress and not add much insulation value. Pics attached.

I'd say many of us put blanket down first. I used split bricks over top. The 8lb. density blanket is pretty firm. It will help keep the heat in the arch and protect your sides from burning out.

Climb on that's what I was doing today in fact. I laid out the blanket in my new arch and Im getting ready to brick it on Friday. 87878788

Lots of guys do it that way. I just did my 2.5x10 using arch board and 1/2 brick.

Thanks for the pictures lakeview, I'm hoping to insulate my this weekend. How did you hold the insulation against the wall?

Thanks everyone! I can pick up the bricks and insulation locally at Smith-Sharpe Fire Brick Supply in Minneapolis. They have been very helpful over the phone thus far. Now I just need to figure out a blower.

Thanks for the pictures lakeview, I'm hoping to insulate my this weekend. How did you hold the insulation against the wall? Just cut it snug and it should stay right in place in the flue area, the brick will hold it in the firebox.
