Been looking at the forecast for a while now it looks like we will get 5-6 days of good weather gonna bit the bullet and start tapping in on Saturday. May only be 5-6 days but better than nothing at all then a little cold again for a week but time will tell and let your sap run 3%.

I'm in St Lawrence County, and I'm thinking of holding off. My forecast shows only three days of good weather then back down into the twenties.

I'm heading out to put up some test buckets tomorrow morning. If they run over the next few days I'll probably put out 50-80 so I'm not totally missing the first run. Not planning on putting out all 200 with the cold weather coming back so soon and not using check valves. I'm at 1600 feet elevation outside of Schroon Lake so it is still a little earlier than usual for me. Good luck!

Yeah was thinking the same thing but I am using cv spouts. Last year I tapped on the 14th a few days earlier than this year and I was still getting great flow into first week of april

Started tapping with my 10 yr old son today. Got about 20 buckets up this afternoon. Looking to do 150 taps on gravity line and 50 buckets. the buckets are his responsibility, he loves it. I love seeing him take a liking to it and wanting to step up and take the responsibility to do the buckets, they were actually his idea. He's excited we had 5 gal of sap in just a few hours this evening.

Anyone getting good sap flow yet? I've got a couple test buckets on some of my better trees and might have 1 pint of sap total from each tap. It just started this afternoon after 3 days of above freezing temps and a good bit of rain. The forecast doesn't go above 20 for the next week so I'm not tapping any more for now.

set vac pump this morning and started tapping in. Pump took longer than I wanted due to one oiler not working so I gave up and started tapping in. Sap was flowing good. Came home and checked a few trees that I have pails on with tubing and full but not enough for me to boil check sugar content and that was great also 2.3 -2.5% for my woods that is high my average is 2%. Gonna work on getting rest tapped in this week after work so I'm ready when mother nature lets go.

That is good to hear. If it is flowing for you guys we can't be to far behind up here. I'll have to work out some type of vacuum for next year.

Well went to the woods on 3/1/14 and got about 600 taps in some repairs done but over all the repairs could have been a lot more. Going back at it today should finish the last section up today and been done tapping unless I get the bug to put more in but I would have to run mains and lats for that. Hoping to get some sap this coming weekend so I can fire up the evap and make some steam and some liquid gold. Hope all your sap runs at 3% and that the season runs into april.

well quick update all of my taps in and now adding new taps to get me to 1500 for the year. Right now I'm at 1300 the last two hundred will be gravity lines. Looking like Friday we will get a little run to clean out lines then Saturday start collecting. Cant wait to try out my new sap transfer pump the misses got me 2.5hp gas pump with 1.5"suction and discharge should load the truck quicker than the 1" electric pump I had before less time pumping and more time boiling. Best wishes to all and let your sap run high

I'm planning on putting mine in the end of this week to see if I get anything over the weekend. Starting to look better after that. Still -4 degrees here for now though. Good luck.

I've got 40 buckets out so far and only the ones in the open getting full sun are running. The woods trees drip a little but haven't amounted to anything yet. I picked up 2 gallons today, so the start has to be close for me. I'll have the rest of my taps in by next weekend unless the weather really changes.

Looks like i'll be headed back to the woods today to finish on last section of 109 taps that I'm adding to vac. With all of this extra time I keep finding more to do and now the longer days will make it even better. Hoping mother nature works with up soon 6 degrees this morning I'm gonna be burning the wood stove till june this year lol
