We start on Saturday, and normally get about 1,000 taps a day done with three of us but the two feet of snow will slow us down. Should take us 11-12 days to complete.

Tapping isn't going to be quite as fun after this storm passes. Up to 8" and snowing between 1-2 inches an hour here. I hope it isn't going to be snowshoe tapping this year.

Just got another load of buckets from the local bakery. Hopefully I'll be able to cut down on the buckets by tubing 3 or 4 at a time into 5 gallon buckets. Got them all cleaned and ready to tap on Monday.

Default Bigsap warning 2014 !!!!!
BIG SAP ALERT 2014
Alert!!!! Alert!!!! Mayday!!!!mayday!!!! The bigsap warning center located in mansfield pa at pierce and sons central headquarters is issuing a severe bigsap watch for much of the northeast at this time. A warmfront has been forecasted for next week that could cause severe and sustained sap runs that could be very overwhelming for the unprepared. All sugarmakers should prepare themselves mentally and physically for the upcoming runs. All tanks should be clean and ready. This is no time to be doing unproductive activities such as spending time with family, attending any kind of social functions, etc. Need to be ready. Big woodpile, plenty of buckets, barrels, have vacuum pumps spinning, releasers test dumped, truck fueled up, everything ready pertaining to big runs. Further information will be provided as it comes available.
