i lost some taps this season due to a piece of land being sold and until i can get the amount i lost back i am going to have to buy some sap this season. i was wondering what a fair price for sap would be? i am not overly concerned about sugar content at this point just need to make up the difference in lost gallons.

See this article from UVM: http://www.uvm.edu/~pmrc/wilmot_pricing.pdf
In short, a good formula is: Price per gallon = (current bulk price per pound/15.64) x (percent sugar).
That's $0.35 per gallon, assuming 2% sugar and $2.74/lb current bulk price on syrup.

I bought 80,000 gallons last season and paid $0.50/gal.

Don't tell Thad and Randy that because they would say you paid .45 cents to much. Thanks for paying what I would consider a fair price.
