Yeah my wife sent me the link yesterday. So apparently everybody they interviewed in Vermont will not be using the new grading standards.....

I got interviewed by the Globe on the same topic last week. The story is supposed to be out tomorrow. I think the photographer was a little bummed out that I was just washing barrels and not boiling, yet.

I plan to use new grades on what I make this year. I have talked to several producers around me that plan to do the same.

My favorite lines were

"Michael Bryant, the secretary-treasurer of the Maine Maple Producers Association, said the system would put Maine on a level field with Vermont syrup, whose prestige he attributes to "marketing" more than just quality.

Does a "tree know which side of the border it is on? I don't think so," he said."

I plan to use the new standards too.

Mr. Bryant, those be fighting words.

Doesn't seem like they wanted to talk to producers that are for the new grades.

My impression was they were making a bigger deal about the article than it is, and making it seem like there's a lot of conflict within the industry about it.

Thanks for posting the link. I couldn't find the article online.
