I'm setting up a dump station with 1" black water pipe running 80' to my sugarhouse down a 3-4% grade. On the wire, I'll have an in-line tensioner and I can have tension from the side at two points.

What size wire should I use to tie the pipe to? I figure I should use whatever you 1" mainliners use, right?

Thanks in advance,
Sean

#12.5 wire would be fine. That is what most mainline is hung on. That is a pretty short run so it should be fine so long as you maintain slope.

How many taps are you adding to b using a 1" mainline? But yeah 12.5 ht wire is what u should use

This is for a dumping station for all of my buckets.

Thanks for the answers. Ok, now I need to know what 12.5 wire is equivalent to. At Lowe's, there was 1/16", 3/32", etc. Should I not be looking at that?

U could get away with 3/4 inch mainline I am sure. No idea what the relation is but 12.5high tensile strength wire. I got mine at tractor supply. I believe it is used more for fencing etc. May not find it at Home Depot or lowes

Yeah, I'm finding that out as I hunt on line. This is another one of those drawbacks to being in the burbs. Lowe's has galv. wire that I used for trellises. I thought I could use something like that, but I don't know what thickness to use.

The biggest difference is the breaking strength. 12.5 ht wire has a 300000psi breaking rating. where most others are lower. U can use other wire just be careful when tensioning it that you don't put to much and break it and have it hurt u. I put a kink in 12.5ht before and then tension it and it broke cut my shirt sleeve and blacken my arm I was scared to look the ratchet handle flow 30ft plus so all I'm saying is becareful at what ever size wire you use. Just my to cents which isn't worth much lol

Sean,
The maple dealers would have it. If you know someone who has tubing, he might sell you a length.
Mine is fastened solid on each end and side-tied to add tension. No tensioning devices at all. It is scary tight. You will need some method of fastening each end-heavy eye hooks, wrap around tree with protection, etc. I saw Glenn Goodrich splice it with a square knot and he said that was as good a splice as crimp sleeves or anything else. There's also something called a gripple that the dealers have. Check a maple supply catalog online or request one. Lots of stuff to look thru.
