Sap is flowing great. We will see how the weather holds up.Hows this look for tapping weather here in Wisconsin? Note the thermometer reading in the lower right corner. 11:30 PM after the Super Bowl.

You won't be tapping anytime soon. When do you typically tap? March?

For several years, March 15-17 (St Pats Day) was the target. Using CVs, first days of March with cooperative temps.

The way the long range weather outlook is for us here in WI we won't be making syrup till sometime in April.

Tapped in Newington (next town over from West Hartford) on the morning of 2/1/14.

As of 6am this morning, collected about 15 gallons of sap from 12 taps. Sap from one tree has a slight yellow tint, I noticed that tree has larger, more developed buds than others, i kept that sap separate from the clear sap, not sure if it will be buddy.

is that tree a norway maple or silver maple? both of those i have tapped b4 and seem to give a yellowish tint the silver more so than the norway.

I collected some sap yesterday. It will be slow until the day time highs warm up. My dad has a decent size operation in upstate NY (Macomb, NY) and he's not expecting to tap until mid-March. Hoping for a long season.

It's a large silver maple in the middle of an open yard. What's interesting is that 4 other silver maples 30 yds away, clumped closely together produces clear sap, maybe the soil is different. I've only seen the yellowish tint in norway maples I tapped last year (norway seem to produce more niter for me).

I agree weather looks great but since I still use buckets for my small operation the snow depth is too challenging right now ....so I am going to wait a day or two before I tap.

We like our buckets at Brooksvale Park! And I like the volunteers who help me gather them!
