I was wondering if you can boil your sap in a galvanize tub or does it have to be ss

No, It doesn't need to be SS but I wouldn't use a galvanized tub to boil in. These were never made for cooking.. Zinc in the galvanizing would worry me because of the heat and prolonged contact time and you have no idea what the joints are covered with. Might be lead.

No galvanized, but you can use plain steel. There are a few threads on here about mild steel pans.

OK thanks a lot. I have a 55 gal. Drum set up to boil my trap in might have to modify for evaporator setup. Thanks again.

What is the history of that barrel? Any residue from a previous life can get in the syrup. If you are going to boil in a barrel, at least use a new one made for food storage, but not galvanized.
How many taps are you talking?

Sorry I wasn't more clear, but I'm using the drum as a fire box. And 12 - 24 taps

Youll get some gasses released for a few fires, but after that youll be fine.
