Second day in a row with no school due to extreme cold. Yesterday my daughter and I got in about five hours of work in the woods. Mostly worked on stretching high tensile for new lines. Plastic might be a little cold to stretch well. In a couple of hours we'll be out again today! Hope the sun stays out and the wind dies down.

Same here in Chautauqua county. Some of the schools have been off all week. I asked my kids to help me in the woods yesterday and they told me that if it was to cold for school then its to cold to be in the woods. Then later in the day they say "dad, can we get the snowmobiles out". They are off again today.

It's funny to hear of school closings due to cold temps. Negative 30 or 40 are yearly happening here in northern Maine. Life just goes on. If it's -40 or you just got 24" of snow, or both, you're still expected to be at work on time and ready to go. I suppose though if the schools aren't properly insulated, that's another issue. I feel for you Stewardsdairy, I ran 30,000 ft. of tubing last winter in January and February and swore I'd never do it again. Yet, here I am this winter doing the same thing. I'm a slow learner I guess.

So it was too cold this morning to be very productive in the woods so I went to Wendel's Maple and spent a lot more money instead. I did get a couple of 3/4 mains up this afternoon. Unfortunately we have to close school on these -20 wind chill days because the kids don't dress properly and come to school in shorts and hoodies. It would be a disaster if a bus broke down or went in a ditch! I say we should let natural selection take its course, but that's not the right thing to do;)
