I was wondering if anyone ever used a xtra fine cone strainer to seperate sand from syrup if works as well as other methods?

When using a cone filter, you put a prefilter in the cone filter. You can put a couple in and as the first one plugs, you remove it and continue with the second one. Always make sure you have a hot wet filter, and never ring it because if you do you will rip the fibers and the filter will not work as designed.

I have a feeling you mean a very fine chinoise??? If so, I haven't tried that but don't think it will work well as the niter is likely still finer than the mesh openings. If you already have one, there's no harm trying it but don't think I'd spend the money to buy one for syrup.. I'd go for the filters made for the purpose. Or just use sedimentation and careful decanting if you're just making a little syrup for home use.
