I see in Bascom's new catalog, that the CDL blue HD mainline is a lot cheaper then Leader's blue mainline. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with this CDL blue mainline? How long have they had it on the market? Is it easy to work with?
I installed about 6,000 feet last year. It handles similar to black water pipe, but not quite as stiff. You can see sap moving through it and it is a lighter color. I think I will be installing more of this over the years. Leaders mainline is nice, but way too expensive.

I first installed some of this pipe about 4 years ago which was not long after CDL started selling it. I am in the process of installing about 5000 feet of it now, mostly blue but some black as well. I agree that is is not as stiff as regular water pipe and seems to straighten better when stretched. CDL has been giving me a really good price on it, cheaper than FW Webb, but I have been buying many thousands of dollars of equipment from them. I do know they are trying to better compete with FW Webb on mainline prices.

Does the high density expand and contract a lot with temperature changes like the black water pipe does? Also, does the blue fade out after a couple of years like Leader's does?

Hello Buffalo Creek Sugar Camp,
(I already answered you on another forum, but in case you would prefer this one..) :)
The rate of linear expansion should be very similar. However, you will still see a difference between the two types. The reason is that a high density mainline being stiffer and stronger, it will pull more on the line than low density pipe when it gets colder and it shrinks.
Resistance to UV rays is mainly linked to the type and quantity of UV protection manufacturers are putting into their pipe. Note that black pipes are naturally protected against UV rays and will last longer than blue pipe.

From our last ice event the CDL has stood up the best of all the colored lines; and as good as the black. The price and consistence of the mains is better. The working with aspect seems to be fine to me, but I have worked with high pressure black water pipe and that is the worse stuff to deal with in cool summer mornings, it would never work for sap production. You cut that with a hand saw...thick- thick walls
