My friends across the road have 65 acres of mostly huge Maple trees. Their son-in-law taps trees over there and I always had an interest until last season when he had no time to use the rest of his sap and asked me if I wanted a try at it. I had no idea he was going to leave me with his evaporator and trusted me with it. So my interest quickly turned into a passion. My friend has now given me my own area to tap and yes, last summer I bought a brand new Lapierre 24" x 60" unit and am still building my 12' x 18' sugar shack in the cold and snow and just this week finished the plywood roof at least to get ready. It seemed pretty easy at that time to work things out but now it's the science of it that takes time to understand. Everyone has their own ideas and thoughts on the many subjects discussed in here but what a great venue to have available. I may be picking peoples brains in here so I apologize in advance if I do. Welcome, you're about the same I was when I built my sugar house, we set the trusses in place on New Years Eve day that year (12/31/03). Caution, the addiction will intensify radically!

Mother Nature Gheeeeeez. Last year was great but early winter and ice on top of snow. There is 5 inches inside the walls. Half the roof up but not giving up for sure. Just walked over to the Shack in the snow storm and took pics. Thanks for the encouragement Mike. Jack

Hi Dave, yea I just went out and took some pics. I think for me it's the fun of learning and putting it all together. Snowing heavy here but still planning and trying to make it a go. Maybe it's the ADDICTION that keeps me going. You don't think it's something Mother Nature puts in the syrup do you? LOL, Jack
