Contemplating about buying a filter press for the operation but not sure about what size to get we make about a 100 gallons a year and anywhere from 5 to 15 gallons in a boil day any help would be great thanks.

Agree, you can always add more plates if you expand

agree, I have a 7" with 4 plates and it will do 15-20 gal before needing a filter change. You could get away with 3 plates I would think..

I agree. I ran a 7" short bank (3 hollow plates, 2 waffle plates plus waffle at each end) until I made 250 gal and I was doing 20 +/- gal batches early season and a little over half that late season. Then I added 2 more hollow and 2 more waffle plates and I can run over 40 gal/filtering early season and maybe 25 gal late season. That's a good size to start with. My current 5 bank can be expanded but I'd need to change the thru bolts to longer ones to accommodate more sets of plates, same pump.

if you ever consider expanding, go with the 7". I use one of those small 5" ones with a hand pump, it does a great job but 100 gallons a yr is enough with it for me

We have been using a Wes Fab short bank 7" for ten years, and running over a hundred gallons a year with no problem. Perfect for the 5-15 gallon batches.

If you plan to expand and you have the budget get the full bank and use pipes over the rods to run it as a short press unti you need the full press.

if you ever consider expanding,
HAHAHA
It was recommended by multiple people on here years ago( PATHERON, 802MAPLE, Parker, Maplecrest, Russlampron and others) to always plan for expansion. Not sure I listened... I bought two evaporators that were too small, a releaser I traded in the next year to buy a bigger one, have twice as many bulk tanks connected togther because i never bought a big one to begin with, am looking at a bigger RO after this season...on and on

aren't we all on this boat somewhat. One question though, How many additions have you added on to the sugar house? and it still is too small.
