I put the fluorescent tubes in the front inside where we bottle etc, came out of a fire house that were in the bay where the trucks were, they were free and work well and plenty of light. Over our arch I put four spotlights like to shine on the arch pans etc, Outside I put Led lights to light up the outside. So far since 2009 has worked well for us. My shack is 10x21
I am still using 100 watt standard bulbs. Of course can't find them anymore. Will b needing to change to something soon

I had 4 60 watts bulbs in my camp I ran them off a battery with inverter if I turned on more then one at a time my inverter went nut and need to charge my battery in 4 to 5 hour. I change them all over to leds they are 8 watts same as 60 watts now I can run them all at the same time for 2 days without charging the battery how ever they are expensive and very bright

I'm interested in led technology. I figure since I'm building new may as well go w/ newer technology. Power not really an issue as I'm tied into the 220 line coming into my barn next door.
Anybody try these LEDs yet?
What else you using?
I'm open to suggestions.

They are pricey, but I've been buying one now and then just to see how they work. I have a couple in my kitchen in the track light housings...they're awesome! The compact flourescents that were in there before were fairl short-lived for their cost. I've taken to writing the installation date on the base of the bulb...just to see if they really last as long as they claim. I've got a three watt LED at the foot of my cellar stairs. It's only there to make the stairs safe, and it's on all the time, at very little cost to either the wallet, or the environment.

ADK, You can buy 100 watt bulbs at auto part stores. They are 100 watt rough service drop light bulbs.
Still legal.

If you want to go with larger incandescent bulbs try newcandescen.com. Its a NJ based bulb company that makes ultra rough service incandescent bulbs that have a 7000 + hour life span. 100w is $2.88 twice the price of an old 100w bulb but also 7 times the life and just like for that last 100 years still mercury and plastic free.

I waited till after Christmas and was able to purchase 6 strands of white led Christmas lights, cheap. I strung them around all four sides along the roof line, and back and forth along the trusses. Plenty of light, no shadows

Morning. I have dealt with the Led bulbs quiet a bit lately.I'm an electrician by trade. As far as the life span they say they will last. They have not been out on the general market long enough to see how accurate it really is. The most recent ones that I put in were the 2x4 ones designed for a drop ceiling. The light that comes out of them is incredible. Not sure who your electric provider is but National Grid is currently offering rebates on certain ones. Be worth a check.
We installer LED's in all our house. We bought them at Home Depot and took advantage of electric company rebates which made them competitive with cfl's. The light out of them is great, the bulbs stay cool and the meter spins much slower.

I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone locally on the state of incandesant bulbs. Some stores have lots of them, others say they can't get them. Some say they can order whatever is needed, others say "not a chance"! One merchant told me there are no more 75 watt bulbs being produced but he could order me a 69 watt bulb! Huh?
Are all incandesants going away? When? Or will some still be manufactured? If so, what wattages will be availiable? And I visited the www.newcandesant.com site that was mentioned earlier in this post and all bulbs listed there are "Out of Stock". Are they not "legal" anymore? Any electricians or lighting experts out there with some info on the incandesants?

I put two 4' LED lights in my new sugar house addition. They are bright enough so that I can actually see the syrup level in the jug as I am filling it. I was able to can syrup without overflowing any of the jugs for a change. They were expensive but well worth the money.

I used a T5 4' 4-Bulb Flourescent fixture in my new sugarhouse and it is plenty bright. It is a sealed unit as per the new regs.
