My wife used my boiling pot over Thanksgiving for cooking. I know in most of the books I have been reading they say that you should not use the equipment for cooking food. If I clean and scrub it well should I be ok, or should I buy another pot? I am not sure how critical it is.
Just clean it then rinse way more than you think you should. Not a good practice but I think you will be fine.

I agree with William - Shouldn't be a problem. Now that I've made Maple Syrup for many years - I have my own collection of pots and pans that would make many women jealous. If it is large and shiny, holds several gallons and the price is right - lol - I buy it. You never have too many. The stainless pots clean up good and as a hobby producer you have to be flexible as well as make good maple syrup. Hey! You are on the right track though - lol - makes a good excuse to acquire your own collection of shiny large pots and steam table pans. Might even let the Mrs. have one of her own. lol ------Mike-----

Maybe your wife wonders how to clean out her cooking pot after you've used it for syrup!

Not a problem, however it sure looks like you "need" a new (and bigger) one to avoid any confusion next thanksgiving --- that's your story and you're sticking to it......

There is nothing wrong with cleaning it well and using it for syrup
