Since Vermont now has a new grading system, does anyone know where we can buy the grade kit, and grade stickers? Do we have to put the new grade stickers on starting Jan 1, 2014? I have not seen anyone selling the new grade kit. What's it going to be? A temporary kit, or something permanent too?

I tried to buy a grade kit last week, I was told they'll be in sometime in Jan. 2014. The grade labels are now available from www.syruplabels.com but the prices are way out of line. Reasonably priced labels don't seem to be available yet.
Sounds typical, government takes so long to approve a new grade standard that the industry is then pressed to meet the timeline.

I was at the WNY maple producers meeting last night, and it was stated at the meeting that NY producers are not required or allowed to use the new system until Jan. 1, 2015. The maple association is trying to get the rule changed so that both grades could be used for a time in 2014 before going completely to the new system on 1/1/15. The USDA has not formerly adopted the new system yet and that is holding up production of the more permanent type of grading equipment. At least for the better part of 2014 things stay as is for NYS.

Bascoms has the new grade set and labels. The labels have both old and new grades on them,I didn't care for the looks of them but that's me.
I don't understand how labels can have old and new. Light transmission is different. Temporary grade kits put out by VMSMA this year are for the new grades. VT does not require you to use new grades until January 1, 2015.

Could be to educate the public during the transition period.
That would be mis-educating the public :/
