To all Ohio maple producers please go to the Ohio Maple Producers website: http://www.ohiomaple.org/ to find information on the 2014 Ohio Maple Days (Maple School) sponsored by the Ohio Maple Program, Dr. Gary Graham and OSU Extension and Ohio Agriculture Research and Development Center.

As in the past these meetings will be offered at three different locations across the state.

I'm hoping the same thing. put off sending in the registration until after it was due and wish I'd been less busy for work. I told the boss this work thing is getting in the way of important things like sugarin.

I'd be interested in the information as well. I've looked at some information at the FDA website. I think we'll escape most of the requirements except GMP(good management practices). Not sure how anyone with less that $100,000 in revenue could ever comply effectively with GMP requirements.

Note a couple summary notes that maybe helpful:

1. If you sell syrup FDA registration is required, i.e. only way you are exempt is if you produce for your own use.
2. FDA says they are not interested in inspecting maple production facilities, registration requirement is in response to legislation by Congress and is intended to allow FDA to contact producers should there be a maple related bio terror or similar threat.
3. ODA inspection is not required for syrup production as long as 75% or more of the sap you boil is from your operation. If your operation purchases 25% or more of the sap boiled there are loopholes.
4. Voluntary ODA inspection is not recommended, why do it if you don't have to.

Timberwolf- Thank You for taking the time to upload and post all of this, great help for those of us who didn't make it. Now I just have to plow through it all and figure out how to register. have seen some other threads about registering online and will have to find those again. I had to chuckle at the phrasing " Maple related bio terror" but really none of this is amusing.
Thanks again for posting.

Timberwolf, Thanks for posting FDA forms. Of course I am going to register but to me this is just another step in our regulation nation. This is so sad. Thanks again!
