Was wondering what the best gauge of metal I should use for the arch and also does any one in the Pittsburg meadville area have a used 2x6 or 2x4 pan for sale??

Thanks, kacey

If it will be insulated well, 1/8 inch would be fine for the frame. Go 1/4" for the pan rest you wull be getting some heat there. The skin can be any guage sheet metal. Depends what's available. Good luck!

I used 1/4" 3x3 angle iron for the frame of my arch, Then used 18ga sheet metal for the sides. Mine is insulated with 1" blanket and then has 2.5" firebrick in it.

Where in pa near Pittsburg can I get fire blanket for an arch so,18 gauge would be fine for the sides if I insulated it well, would split brick and blanket work too? I am building a 2x6 arch and any info or wisdom would be great thanks Kacey

You can find it online lots of places.

I would put at least 2" around the firebox. When I installed my AOF last year, I had temps averaging 1600-2000 degrees under the pan over the firebox. I then put 1/2 brick against the blanket to protect it from the wood. The rest was only 1".

I also used aluminum sheets and never had a problem.
