So I get emails all the time for what ever maple... want to buy 1000 liters whatever... all scams.
Now I got an email today says they were at the Deerfield fair this past weekend and bought a small glass leaf of my syrup. Well I didn't have any syrup at the fair but being a member of the NH maple producers I could see how they could get my name. So they are asking for a price quote for 150 small glass leaf bottles of syrup I assume 50 mls for wedding favors. They give a phone number and email address and its 774 area code which is south eastern MA looks like a Mansfield. Did anyone else get an email like this that is a NH producer. It could be legit but being I didn't have any syrup at the fair it just make me a little nervous its really not that much syrup but its a pain filling those little bottles as we all know. Anyone else get this request?

I get lots of orders that are scams but they only say they want to buy some of my product, and will I ship over seas with a Mastercard/visa/Western union or such. I consider these scams since they don't even specify syrup or anything for that matter.
However, I would answer the email you got and talk with them. I have gotten a few similar orders for wedding favors, they go well at weddings and you often get some repeat business from the guests as long as you have your label on the bottles. When I pack up a wedding order, I get half up front, non refundable saying I don't pack a large quantity of bottles without a deposit up front (weddings have been known to get cancelled) and the bal. when they pick up the order, several days before the wedding. My only exception to that has been when it is a relative.

I didn't get an email like that, but if it turns out to be real and not a scam defentaly go with it, I had plans to have products at a wedding last year but it fell through and didn't end up happening, it seems like it would great for publicity

Google the phone number, also google the email address. if it is a scam you should know by doing those things.

I'd be more curious how your syrup was at the fair. Could be that someone at the fair is re-selling syrup that they legitimately acquired from you which is all good, but the alternative would have me concerned. Counterfeit syrup??!
I'd be calling the number right away to follow up and as part of the conversation, I'd be asking for details. Where did they buy it, what size, what's the lot code on it, how much did they pay for it? I'm all for someone making a profit reselling my syrup but if I wasn't aware they were doing it, I'd want to know the details.

I am gonna follow up and see. at the fair some of the local producers sell in the NHMPA sugarhouse with their own label on it. So maybe since they are in south eastern MA maybe they bought syrup their and picked up a pamphlet with the list of producers on it and I was the closest to them. just a guess I will figure out a price and give them a call see what they say!!!

I worked in the sugarhouse at Deerfield on Friday from 1:00 - 9:00 and Saturday from 3:00 - 9:00 and I remember a few people asking about who they could buy wedding favors from. We gave the NHMPA pamphlets to people that asked questions like that, not recommending anyone particular just so that we were fair to all producers. The maple syrup that was sold those days came from Ben Fisk, Folsom's, B&B in Chesterfield, Windswept Maples, Peter Thompson in Orford. There were a couple others also like Josh Bouchard and Dave Boudrias that had products there also but I don't remember if it was syrup though. The producers mentioned here all had their own label on their syrup.

yes I am familiar with all of them. I know each producer that sells there has their own labels on the syrup. I assume they may have got it out of the pamphlet. Since they are in south eastern MA I am guessing they may have picked me because I am one of the more south eastern NH producers.
I emailed them last night with a quote. So we'll see. but I was also upfront and honest saying I didn't have my syrup at the fair this year!!!

I know what you mean about being closer making a difference. There was a woman from Pembroke NH that wanted wedding favors also and I listened as she read the names of the producers on the pamphlet and she didn't want to deal with anyone above Concord. There was a fairly tall dark haired guy and I assume his fiancé with him asking about wedding favors but I didn't hear where they were from. Good luck to you and I hope you get the sale.
