I just paid forty bucks for a Trend bimetal thermometer for a canner. After I got it home, I got the idea to check it's accuracy. I boiled some water and stuck the 6 inch stem in and all I got was 166 degrees no matter how deep I put the stem in. I put it under cool water and tried it several more times with the same results. It's a 0/250 deg. F. model. Is there a way to calibrate this type? I don't see anything that adjusts it like on the 0-7-50 models we have on the evaporators. I sure hope I didn't get a lemon. I don't really feel like driving 60 miles to exchange it.

Is there any way you can open it and possibly rotate the increments and numbers?
Sure sounds like has something wrong with it though. with the 0-0-250 type you can't change the dial that much.
Wish I could help more.
Good luck
