when doing 5/16 I pull the lateral tight then use a two hand tool to cut in drops so they line up to the trees well. If I am understanding right on 3/16 laterals you can cut the 3/16 lateral and overlap a 5/16 drop instead of a fitting. If you are running tubing by yourself would you be able to control both ends of the lateral and add the drop? Sounds like it is do-able just tiring to do it the easyest way. Where 3/16 is smaller do you put the same pull and tightness on the laterals?

On my 3/16" I use a 3/16 tee and put in just like a 5/16 drop. Just modify the two handed tool with some masking tape. I go all the way up to about 6" from the spout before I jump up to 5/16. Leaving a short section of 5/16 at the spout allows for changing the spout.
