looking for feedback on ideal size of RO room. I plan on pouring a concrete floor in what was our woodshed (12x20) and moving raw sap tanks and RO over in to that area. Looking to put a newer 600 gph RO (likely one with a stand alone membrane housing) in to an insulated area that we will build on top of the slab.

what size a features do you like in your RO room? 8ftx8ft? floor drain? are most wash tanks built in to the frame or stand-alone?

thanks-

Eric,
CDL wash tanks are part of the frame. LaPierre's are separate (and should be set up off the floor about 8 or 10 inches). CDL membrane pressure vessle stands about 1 ft taller than the LaPierre. I'd put a drain in the floor. Wish I had one. The bigger the room, the more it will cost to heat so 8x8 is probably a lot bigger than you need. Will you put the membranes in the vessels inside the room or put them in outside the room and then move the pressure vessel back in?

I had mine in a 8x12 storage container temporarily last yr along with 3 cage tanks. My wash tank is separate and was pretty cramped. I am building a 8x12 addition for ro which since there will be no cage tanks in it I think it should be fine. I may get a 300 gallon bulk tank to recirculate in but not sure. I think a floor drain is a must . I will have one.

Eric,
we have just bought a Lapierre turbo 2000 600 gph ro, and are currently setting up the Ro area for it. ours has the stand alone vessel, and a separate wash tank. we are going to house the ro in a 4x8 room that we plan on insulating floor to ceiling, and will heat it with a light bulb to keep it from freezing. we are also putting a floor drain in because it seems like it will be just too convenient to drain right in the room. we are going to use our current head tank as our concentrate tank that feeds the evaporator. on the back side of our ro room we are building on to the sugar house with a simple enclosed shed roof to hold our raw sap tank, and permeate tanks. only thing with these tanks we are going to make sure is that the valves to shut off the tanks will also be in the ro room to ensure they do not freeze during our cold NNY nights.

My RO room is 8x10. I do have about 500 gallons of permeate storage in there. It is kind of tight but not bad. I really like my permeate and lines not frozen. This is built into a bank. With no heat it never gets below 35. Thinking about another next to it for raw tanks to stay cooler

A floor drain is a must, but it is also very nice to have a low drain stub up up at the wall behind where the RO will be. you can plumb in a drain from the wash tank and ro out puts so that you don't have to have hoses running into the floor drain. Don't create tripping hazards.

Also, if it goes to 35 I'd still have 2 light bulbs, 1 to heat if needed and the second as insurance. I'm not in a bank, but I am heavily insulated except the concrete floor and I have 3 x 100 watt bulbs, where 1 is good down to about zero and 2 will handle any temperature I'll likely ever see, the 3rd is insurance. And I check them every day. My heat runs off a solar powered battery bank and inverter, just in case the grid goes down, but I had the solar before the RO.

I do keep close track when it gets to -30 but have never seen it below 35 in the shed. I should also say that my membranes are in containers in my house basement.

As a RO service person, I will say 8x8 is just about right. I have been in so many small RO rooms that you have to be a contortionist to work on them, that it really adds a ton of time when you have to service them, and no matter the brand it will have to be serviced sometime.
