For those of you packaging maple sugar in spice shakers, what size bottle do you use? I assume spice shakers are sold by fluid ounce instead of by weight like sugar? How much sugar would fit in a 5.5oz spice shaker?
I use shakers that say 8.4 oz on the bottom. I have to pack a little to get 5 oz in them.

I use two sizes. Largesize I get 12 oz of gran sugar and smaller one i get 6 oz.

Right, they're sized for liquid. You'll get half the volume listed going by weight. An 8oz shaker will hold 4oz sugar by weight, 16 oz will hold 8 oz, 32 oz will hold 16 oz (1 pound). Hope that helps.

Bottom line is the amount will vary depending on how fine your sugar is. Course granular(sifted) will be lighter than the finer powder. So my theory is fill the container till it is full tap it a few times to settle it and price it accordingly. People will rather have a full container than one that settled and looks unfilled.
