Has anyone every used RV antifreeze for winterizing the RO system? I know it's safe for drinking water and contains no poisons or toxins and it's very inexpensive. It contains some mixture of propylene glycol, ethanol and water plus some additives. I think the only concern would be potentially damaging the membrane, but I'm not sure how that could happen because it's compatible with most plastics. You already have to contend with the smell of propylene glycol if you're using a 50/50 mixture with water now.
I just answered my own question. If you have a conventional acetate RO membrane it isn't a good idea to immerse them in ethanol. I think it is probably ok for nano filtration membranes, but will research further.
