I currently run ruffly 180-200 buckets and like everyone who hates scrubbing buckets I am looking for an easier way to clean the buckets after season. my thought is to buy sap sacks and just line them in the buckets so when season is done, I throw away the bags and stack up the buckets without having to wash them, just make sure they are dry, dose anyone else do this method or any type of method to make the cleaning process a bit less time consuming? I work on the family dairy farm and when season is wrapping up the field work begins so in my situation, time is money.

I cannot speak to sap sacks, but I tried some heavy duty plastic bag liners I got from uline and it was a failure. hardest thing was getting the hole through the liner and getting the tap to go back in to the hole consistently.

Why would you waste time with both. Just use sacks and get rid of the buckets.

That's what I was wondering. We visited a Sugarbush before we started. Steve was nice enough to offer to fix me up with some spiles and bags like he uses and we were off to the races. I couldn't imagine how cheap and easy it was to get started.

I'm not sure where he gets the bags but they hold something around 3 gal and worked beautifully. The only issue I had were a few would blow off the spile on a windy night if the sap wasn't running when I emptied late evening. Clean up consisted of emptying the bag, pulling the tap, and tossing the disposable bag in the recycle bin. He charged me $0.40 each for the bags and spiles I bought. I'm happy happy happy with the setup.

I have tried bags before and had critters chew holes in the corners. The buckets (5 1/2 gallon) I have were all free from where a good friend works at. My whole mind set is to use the bags like you use garbage bags and then just place the lid with drop line on the bucket.

I have an old farmhouse with big maple out at the street. We put bags inside the old metal buckets gives the look of old time sugaring with food grade collection. Lee

Backyard Sugaring, how many gallon are the bags and where did you get them from?
