There was a plot of land not too far from my area where someone put in a bunch of taps without asking. Guy went to cut his lot off the next summer and found his wood was no good for finish boards. Lost a ton of money.

Is this really that big of a problem? Seems like the reporter was trying to make a big deal out of a few isolated incidents by small timers w/ taps into PVC Pails. Tapholes are only worth less than a buck a piece. Are there really people w/ 1000's of taps stealing sap? And who uses 7/8" tapholes? Timber theft is a much bigger problem.

well your friend didnt look to deep. The law suit mt B.I.L. was in his attorney found that a tapped maple tree log was worth as much or more than a veneer log due to the tap holes and when the tree is cut and made into boards it creates a very unique custom look, just saying.

Great article... make sure you read page 2 about where some of the illegal taps were located.

Forget RO vs. wood vs. oil - we are going to make sure that our customers know that our syrup is 100% zombie-free.

I had a 5 gallon bucket and 2 taps/tubing disappear from an off site bush about 2 weeks ago. Only one house right next door to it..... Hmmmm.....
