I have been unsuccessfully looking for a BBQ sauce recipe. Does anyone have one they are willing to share?
Thanks, Dan.

One cup ketchup, 2 ounces coke, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, one ounce liquid smoke, 1 teaspoon Montreal steak spice and last but not least Maple Syrup about 1/4 cup. Heat it in a saucepan and let cool

Asthepotthickens, I have been meaning to tell you I love your screen name!

But you might want to clarify your recipe before sending people to the dark side. Is it coke, or Coke? :o

*Psst.* *Beth.* I think we should pass on asking about the ingredients for his hash browns. ;)

Thanks for the super BBQ sauce recipe Asthepotthickens. That's going to get a lot of attention around here when I take my propane tank off my turkey fryer and put it back on my BBQ.

asthepotthickens, I used your bbq sauce recipe (altering it slightly based on my pantry) on some fresh sea scallops and my husband was very happy!! I made two types of scallops and though he liked both, he like the bbq ones better. They gathered and boiled all day, so it was a nice surprise to come home to. Thanks!!

Sorry not sharing my whole recipe yet still in the works, but a few tips.

I find that using ketchup which is already loaded with sugar then adding maple too it just makes it way too sweet but every recipe that I saw on the web started with ketchup as a base.

I switched to tomato paste, and braggs apple cider vin. and maple syrup as your base. but the darkest strongest stuff you have just before the sap turns, if it has a molasses flavor to it its even better(good for beans too).

with the tomato paste you can add a lot more maple syrup giving it a stronger maple flavor which can get masked using ketchup and once you add spices you can really loose it.

but once you find the correct tomato: sugar: acid ratio then you can season it with the liquid smoke( I like colgin hickory liquid smoke just as a personal preference. I don't like wright's its a little bitter to me.) and what ever herbs ad spices you like. just start with a very small batch because as you add stuff to it to get it right it can turn big pretty fast. and write down every thing and the measurement you added.

cook it down a little and its really good. If it seems not as smooth with tomato paste you can always pop it in the blender for a bit just make sure its cooled a little.

I tried a generic ketchup as a base...yuck! Never again. I like it best with Heinz. I've considered trying Hunt's because they don't use high fructose corn syrup like Heinz, but I hate messing with something I already like. I did try using a tomato sauce and a tomato paste base before without success. I would have gotten it eventually, but I hate wasting. When someone else perfects it, I'll gladly give it a shot.

I like the V8 Idea.... hmm never thought of that. The rest looks good. it doesn't get salty? Worc sauce, V8, Kosher salt? seems like a lot of salt, probably not off set by the sweetness of the maple.
