Total re-do of batch one:
Dumped my first two 12 oz bottles of my first attempt (way too heavy and cloudy) into my latest batch of "near syrup." Took to 217 on turkey fryer. Filtered the whole batch of near syrup. Should have been syrup at 218.875, but took to 220 to get the perfect (just bought) hydrometer reading of 32 baum @ 211 degrees. Filtered again and bottled.
This is way better - clear and tasty. Very pretty, if I say so myself.
This is from 1 Norway, 3 Red's and 2 Box Elders. Took 29 gallons of sap to yield 72 oz of syrup. Obviously not the highest sugar content, but it works for me. I love this hobby and have not even had a pancake yet!!
Boiling down another batch (and hope for more sap to come) presently.
Could not have had this first success without all of the great helpers on this forum. A tip o' the hat to ya'll !!
