Making a grate

Next for my build is the grate. Any thoughts on spacing? I am using 1.5x1.5 angle.

I used 2"x2" and spaced them 1" apart. Works grate!;)........sorry I couldn't resist.

Have you used it yet? Just wondering if it plugs with coals. I am just going to use natural draft at first to see how it goes, possibly aof if needed. Thanks for the pics. That is what I was planning to make.

Fired it up last night for a test boil and it worked great. I sure hope it warms up in the next couple days so I can boil some sap. High of 33-34 the last 2 days.

I hear you. My trees are just stating to wake up. I've only had 40 gals of sap so far.
