i am looking for real world information about boiling rates. when buying my new truck, the window sticker said 18mpg but i found that not to be true so i am looking for real numbers. i would like to be around 20gph boiling rate. i currently have a flat pan that is 30" x 48". with forced air and a tight arch, is it possible with what i have? a hood? if not, any recommendations for a newer setup? i will entertain all information. any info will be helpful. the season is over here so its time to make improvements. thank you

I'm thinking a 20"x66" with a flue pan would be in that range. My 2x6 without blower would do 35gph. With a blower and pre heater in the steam hood it will do 40+ now.

With my 2' by 8' I get 50 gph. No forced air or hoods.

If you are looking for 20 GPH, then buy a rig rated at 30 GPH. I know it will cost more but but out the wife's beer if necessary.
One thing you may want to do is speak with Bill Mason (WFMASONWELDING.COM) up in Maine. He can make up a pan for you that would fit your current arch.
He has many ideas and is a good guy to speak with. He also has a few options such as a drop-tube style pan...check it out it's pretty cool as well and a raised flu
set up.
Best of Luck.
