Thinking of running a few lines that I will leave up. How do most of you connect the 5/16 blue lines to the fittings? I chew on them, there has to be a better way.

I use a Bic lighter to soften the plastic. Just don't over do it and turn the plastic black.

You can also use a thermos filled w/ hot and dip just the end of the tubing in to soften.

A good thermos of hot water, dip only the first 1/2' of tubing in though so that it stays ridgid behind for pushing onto the fitting

I have drops into buckets and found that after I seat the tap, I can wriggle the tube on easy. Just go in a circular motion and push.

We used to chew on them until we got a 2-handed (requires 3 hands to operate!) tubing tool. If I need to make a connection in the woods and don't have the tool with me I warm the tubing a little in my mouth, but don't bite it, before pushing it on the fitting. Chewing can cause micro-leaks in a vacuum setup. On gravity this won't matter unless you have enough fall to create natural vacuum.
