Has anyone tried taking maple candy (leaves, etc.) and giving a chocolate coating? I did a search and came up empty so I was wondering if it's not workable or simply not a good combination. I may try it anyway as it sounds simple.... lol. I am not a cook at all...

My thoughts were using milk chocolate but my wife thought the milk chocolate would be overpowering sweet, but it sounded good to me. So...might try both semi-sweet and milk chocolate.

Just so happens I did this 2 days ago. Yumm. Use a high quality semi-sweet bakers chocolate. be easy -it overpowers the maple with just a bit. not too hot when melting the chocolate or you might melt the candy if it doesn't melt well add a touch of veg oil while stirring. give plenty of time to cool or put in freezer if you are impatient like me. don't worry about screwing up someone in your house will eat it!

I have dipped maple candies in melted semi sweet chips. Some said yum others said too much

In 2004 I was featured in Country Living Magazine and had made maple candy coated on one half with dark chocolate. The food person for them loved them but only the picture of my sugarhouse made it in the magazine and nothing about the candy

Yesterday, I went to the Lake Champlain Chocolate Factory in Burlington, Vermont and took the tour (again). Based on what I learned, dark chocolate might be better for what you are doing. Dark chocolate isn't made with dairy (so she said) and has a really long shelf life. They were making dark chocolate turkeys for Thanksgiving....in April! They were making them when we went last April too. She said they make all of their dark items way in advance because they remain unchanged and don't go stale. Milk chocolate had to be handled differently. Even though I often prefer milk or white chocolate (which, as it turns out, IS actually chocolate too), I think that the maple would be so sweet that the dark would be a better compliment. Just my opinion.
