FINALLY,,,,A ggod sap day here in Northern Ontario, so a good day toO for Northern Michigan too.

Weatherman predicted 1C or 33F,,,turns out today is 5C or 41F,,,,sap is going as best as I saw this year. Not a flood, but a pretty good pace, a very pleasant surprise.

With yesterdays little amount I collected and todays total still dripping, I think tomorrow I get my first boil that will net me over a gallon of syrup !!

I was planning Wednsday, but now way can I let this sap sit, tomorrow is the boil !!

Anyone else get a GREAT surprise today with good temperatures ??

As a mater of fact I did. The sap ran a little bit today but trees are still frozen and there still is 3 foot of snow. This weekend should be good

Temp was 40.9 F (got a new advanced weather station and installed it today ) and right now it's 38.7 F

My 15 tap tube line has gotten 10 gallons since 2:00pm! That's 10 gallons in 4 hours!!!!

Still streaming in too!!! Buckets aren't gonna be emptied until tomorrow around 3pm. 5 of my buckets are 2.5 gallons and weren't half full at 4pm and the rest are 5 gallon buckets ( 21 ) so I got a feeling I am gonna have to start being a boiling fool tomorrow NIGHT! YES!!!!

Hey Pacman,,,,glad to hear you got a little surprise sap today too.

DonJr,,,those are great numbers from your 15 tap line, wow.

I will boil tomorrow as well, I have a couple appts in the a.m. (planned it that way), and then have the rest of the day off.... so far.

Gonna boil whatever I have, looked tonight after I got home and the sap stopped flowing here. Hoping I have about 50-60 gallons to work with. I will know for sure once I get it into my barrels and 5 gallon pails.

Just above freezing tomorrow (forecast), hope its wrong again, lol. Maybe even get some new sap tomorrow from the trees and boil that too !!

Good luck to all.

I hope 'Run Karen Run' got some sap today also.

I hope 'Run Karen Run' got some sap today also.

Here we go! Terry you must be my lucky charm! I am happy to say that I got 32 litres of sap today. The box elders have done squat so far this year and are still fast asleep. If they don't smarten up I'm going to pull the plug on them and concentrate on trees that are willing to play fair. Many of the trees that were running today were doing so at 2 drips per second. I was giddy. I emptied twice today, not because I really needed to, but because I didn't want to risk any overflowing. Well that, and it made me feel like I was finally in the game.

In the morning I will start boiling the 70 litres that I've collected since Friday. I think I'm too excited to sleep tonight!

Run Forest Run! Fill Buckets Fill! FINALLY!

Terry, one of the clear water bottle jugs that I'm using in the front yard is slightly illuminated by a street light. Using my binoculars I can see that it is still filling. Yeah, that could be a creepy image for the neighbours if they saw me. Maybe I should get drapes. :o

Christmas has finally come, just in time to duke it out with the Easter Bunny!

Thats funny Karen !! Drapes are over rated, we have many windows with no drapes, blinds at best to keep sunlight out if for any reason.

I too have one clear collection jar/jug. It has a flip top lid so we just place the tube inside and the kids and I drink from that one. It was a juice jug, now converted to our backyard water bottle !

Happy days are here again !!

The clear water jug in that location has a real purpose. It keeps the curiosity of the three little boys next door satisfied. Otherwise they keep messing with my buckets to check out the sap for the day. Every day at 4:12 p.m. they get off the bus and go straight for the jug. I was getting tired of having to reset my spile every couple of days. This works like a dream. Now I won't ever have to be "that crabby lady next door" that they remember 40 years from now as they reminisce about their childhood.

Nobody saw my comment and video?

Now it's 11:15pm, 8 hours and 15 minutes and I have 20 Gallons for the day in just my 15 tap Tube line!

...and Karen... if you haven't had drapes in a long time the neighbors probally said " oh crap...now she's looking at ME! "

Hey Don. Another informative video. Thanks! You are rockin' the sugar count today! At least that's one benefit of waiting out some below freezing nights!

Hey DonJr....I did miss that post, you and I were typing at the same time. I read Karens then posted my reply, but you beat me, lol.

That means great minds think alike, good video and even better temps you had last night.

I am off soon to get things done and then back home this afternoon to collect and boil,,,,YIPPEE.

I had pretty good flow yesterday as well. After such a long freeze, it takes a few days to get it going again.

Hey Don, I had higher than normal (for me) sugar yesterday too. Mine clocked in at 4%, I've been running around 3%-3.2%. It was also running for me late afternoon and into the evening.
