Made my 1st batch of syrup a few weeks back. Now after a few weeks of sitting it looks like there is sediment at the bottom of the jars. Can I simply reheat the syrup and refilter it?
With this next batch instead of only filtering the finished product I am filtering the sap prior to boiling and then once again once finished. Is this what most of you do? I have only been using a paper towel to filter, is this ok or should I invest in filters?

Either invest in a proper filter or let natural settling be your friend :). Yes you can reheat and repack it. Just don't heat above 195-200F after filtering or more niter will form.

Unless you are selling it, I would simply pour off the clear syrup into a clean container and put it back in the fridge.
Yes, most producers filter the sap and then filter the syrup.
But filtering small batches is a pain and you lose a lot of syrup that won't pass through the filter. If I was only making a couple gallons for myself, I would probably just filter through a paper prefilter and let the remaining nitre settle out and store my syrup in the fridge or freezer (syrup won't freeze)

Well, for what my little experience is worth I boiled down a few pails of cloudy syrup yesterday with no problem. The pails had been sitting on the porch and pretty much froze up. I brought them in mid-week and left them to thaw out. When they were no longer ice blocks, they were cloudy. I could barely see the bottom of the 5 gallon pail but there was no off odor or taste. Boiled them down along with a few others and made up a batch!
