Hi everyone,
Just found this forum the other day and wanted to say hello and thanks for all the usefull information.

Im new to the hobby and still learning and working out the bugs. My biggest problem seems to be not getting as much sap as I want to be boiling, but im dealing. On a good day im getting about 15 gallons of sap, over the past 8-10 days ive only gotten about 18 gallons of sap total. Im hoping to boil this weekend with 20 gallons or more, but we shall see. I expected to have a lot more sap than I got yesterday, only 3 gallons from my 35 taps. I think my biggest problem is most of my trees are in the woods and it just took all day for them to get warm enough to start running.

hoping for a good weekend!

Scott - Welcome - This time last year I was about done as the trees were budding out. This year the sap is slow in coming as it has been to cold much of the time - with snow and ice everywhere. If I do get a little sap - it freezes in my buckets. Still waiting to get enough sap for my first boil of the year. The next few days look better in my area - ir the weather folks aren't fibbing again. Yep - about half of my trees have the same problem - in the shade and slow starters. Have Fun ---Mike---

Hold on to your hats!! Mother is getting ready to let loose a daluge of sap on us! :)

Have you made any modifacations to your turkey frier set up? IE: burners closer to the pan, bricks around them to keep the heat in etc etc

No?? lol I have 3 fryers, all 3 are different.

1 has this red button you have to hold on to get it started and the darn thing goes out occasionally and I can not figure out why!! 1 other runs GREAT and seems to be my workhorse...I hadnt thought about putting bricks around it, the 3rd one is a piece of crap and the least efficient, but it still boils for me. Im getting tons of yellow flame from it no matter what I do and the flames even shoot up around the pan creating soot and a carbon build up. Thats what I get for borrowing from my brother in law LOL.

I got a nice square stainless pan that holds 5 gallons and I tried that on the workhorse fryer, but it seems to be inefficient that way as it can really only boil the center of the pan....I need 2 of them side by side to make this way work better. So for now, Im just running the 3 big aluminum pots, which I know is also inefficient cause you want it shallower to get rid of the steam quicker. Im still working on it and trying to figure out a good system.

Welcome to the Form SMELLSLIKESYRUP.

Gla dto have you here and give us all your stories.

A fast possible fix for your turkey friers may be to just wrap tinfoil around the base to keep wind away and minor heat in, it will help.

The frier that is all yellow flame, try adjusting the air intake, it is usually a metal sleeve close to the burner along the black hose.

Good luck.

Thanks Terry, I will take a look at that this weekend and see if that helps, will certainly try the tin foil too!! I appreciate the tips!
