2 New Homemade Arches Finally Done

Finally done building 2 arches to replace my fuel barrels that I was using. Wish the sap would come now it was 11 below zero this morning.

One flat pan and one "V" pan... Do you run both simultaneously?

Yes I run sap into the v pan and then I have a 3/8 copper line that runs out of the v pan into the flat pan. v pan is 27" by 5' and flat pan is 32"x5'. I have never done better than about 22 gal. per hour with both boiling. I am hoping the new arches almost doubles that.

Looks nice! Did you get the pan with the v-bottom from a shop in Bruce WI. I see some advertized on craigslist. Just wondering how well they work.

Why 2 arches? Why not just 1 bigger one?

Brad, A friend of mine made the V pan, he used to work at one of the big sheet metal places in EC so he welded up some pans there after work. It works real well. Only problem is you have to tip it up to get the sap out of the Vs.
Spencer, It would be harder to do 1 arch with these pans cuz one is 27" wide and one is 32" wide. I figure these will be easy to sell if I decide to take the plunge and buy a real evaperator instead of batch pans. I have less than $1300 in the whole setup.
