I used what I had(except for the pans). The neighbor gave me this old wood/coal furnace. I am no welder, just barely capable. And by looking here and on the web fab this thing up. Improvements needed, sure. Boiled through the first 90 gallon just fine. That's my 3 year old Granddaughter helping tap trees

I added a rocket stove pre heater which also boiled great. Even my wife came out(she hates the cold) to watch and soon give directions

This is very close to the first wood burning system I made. The second year I welded two together and set up a two pan system. Have fun my biggest concern is the wood you are burning up here that is worth 100$ a kord. I burn old pallets and brush out of the bush it's free

Asthepotthickens, Great ideas on the wood thanks. the wood I am burning is free. It is ash that was laying on the ground after a storm, this load I split up small for the cooker. I have brush piles seasoning too. I have two locations to collect pallets and will stock pile them and save the ash for the indoor wood burner.

Pick up an electric chain saw to cut up the pallets, they work well and it's quiet and save. Not to mention lugging around the Still 026 is heavy
