Ok here's my story....I had a guy at work want to trade a pint of syrup for a stick of cold smoked sausage, and I said sounds good to me. I brought in 2 half pints and he went home a happy man. The next day I ask him how it was and he gets this funny look on his face and tells me about his grandson. My buddy had talked up my syrup to his grandson and got him to take a taste of it and says" this doesn't taste good grandpa." to which he says that this is real maple syrup so it will taste different than the store stuff and stuck his own finger in the jar and tasted it. Yep, it did taste bad , something like vinegar he said and it was very thin. I couldn't figure this one out at all, so I called him after work and asked him to look at the cover and tell me which lot number was on it and he said that there wasn't any numbers on it. That's strange cause I always label my batches and this got me thinking so I called my wife and asked if she had made any special concoctions and canned them, She says yea, I made some raspberry vinaigrette dressing. No wonder it tasted like vinegar! I hjad a good laugh at this but was happy that my syrup hadn't turned bad. And I am bringing him a good pint in the morning. Live and learn.
