Does anyone else run a 2x6 cdl ...what kind of gph are you getting or what could I expect...straight forward, no blowers, raised 7" flues.

Any comments on the unit would be great to hear...not sure how I am going to like it...

I have a CDL 2x6 that I bought new in 2007. all stainless, mine is set up outside for cooking. I get 20-30gph depends on the weather, wood, wind and how deep you run the pans.I run about an inch in the front and 1 1/2 in the rear pan... some time the boil gets jumping in the rear pan..I also use a timer for adding wood every 7 mintes or so. I use a stoker to move the coals around when they get built up ..keep the air going up through the grate ...after a long day of cooking I clean out the syrup pan before I fire up the next day.

What did you do for an ash pan? Does size and shape of it make a difference? Just picked up my 2x6 saturday, but haven't got it bricked yet.

I dont have to worry about an ash pan,I am outside.dont know what the new fronts look like but I have a 2" gap around the bottom and I just use a flat shovel.Maybe someone else can give some ideas on a ash pan

Go to the New Equipment tab on here click on evaporators there is a nice video of a cdl 2x6 he is doing 35-40 gph no blower. Pretty nice set up.

Does the thermometer go through the float box? How long is it, 6" or 9". They gave me a 6", unless i'm nuts, I think I need a 9" probe.

Brian i have a question for you i have the same evaporator. How much of a space do you have from your stack to were you have your ramp? Also do have under your flue pan filled right up even with the rails?

I first went with 8" because that's what CDL said. On my rest boil I wasn't happy so I have it at 6" space to the stack. I have about 1/2" space to the flues but this summer I will get it with in 1/4".

What is the "ramp" you're talking about?

The ramp is from the grates where it slopes up to the flue pan.
As liken the CDL, I do, I looked at a lot brands and the CDL seemed to be the best bang for the buck. As for syrup I've made 5 gallons with still a lot in the pan, for where we live that's a not bad, we will be getting our good runs coming up soon. we are behind most people because of location. When I was a kid I wished April school vacation was two weeks earlier because that's the best time for our runs, been that way here for the last 40 tears.

Did you get the reverse or cross flow? I wanted the cross flow but we loaded the reverse flow and I didn't notice till I was home. To far to go back and switch. Any problems with nitre buildup?

We will be adding vacuum this coming year. Mike how many taps do you have? As for build up yes but we just drain the pan when needed and clean it in place.
