Steam hood question

I recently bought a steam hood for my 2x6. This will be for the flue pan. I am going to build a preheater for it but won't get to it until after the season. Is there any advantage to using the hood with out a preheater? I feel like it would only trap steam? Any thoughts?

It will get a lot of steam out of your camp. Less condensation on the roof!

Lots of hot water! I have a 5 gal bucket on each side of mine and they fill up every 5-8 minutes when we are really cranking!
