I just got a new 2x3 tig welded stainless steel pan that I was able to have made by a local school so not all the welds are as clean as I expected and there are some bubbles. I was just wondering what I should do to clean and cure the pan befor running my first boil of sap. I cant wait to try it out figuered it was a good traid off kids got to learn and I no longer have to boil on a turkey fryer.

I would add water to 2" deep and about 1/2 box of baking soda, bring to a boil and scrub with a stainless or synthetic scrubbing pan. You should be good to go after that. Drain, wipe clean, and start boiling sap.

Sandblasting the welds is the best. You can use a wire brush wheel on a grinder but it is hard to get it in the corners. Then boil and clean with water.
