How long do folks wait to let the the water they ad back to heavy syrup to get a correct, adjusted, density reading?

Here is what I have been doing and I seem to get irregular corrected readings.

Say I have 28 gallons syrup that is 2 brix heavy-

- Canner at at least 205 to 210
- mix in 142 oz. of hot water
- mix with large spoon or scoop
- draw off in to hydrometer cup at least two times (and dump back)
- check density at 202 deg. on my wall chat from the Maple guys

What tends to be happening is the first few readings say that I am still to heavy. Then after 3-4 minutes and a few more sampling draws, I get a reading that tells me I am at the correct density. I use hot water to clean the hydrometer each time.

So am I doing something wrong in my sequence, or do I just run the numbers to adjust density with from the NA Maple Syrup Producers Manual and just call it good?

thanks-
