My trees stopped for a week od so and yesterday gave a bit, maybe 15 gallons.

I calculated how much syrup I should have gotten. I boiled it of turkey frier, then finnished in the house.

Glad to say I got 2 extra small syrup bottles. A total of 5, but should have been three and a bit, for the size bottle I have.

Does the sap come out sweeter after the trees rest ??

Thanks for any input.

Terry, after the recent freeze up we had, my trees started dripping late this afternoon. My soft maples, which were giving me an average of 1.75% sugar last week gave up 2.6% today. A sugar maple that I tap measured in at around 2.5% last week, but jumped to 3.6% today. I'll take it! I'll be boiling tomorrow for sure!

It's actually a refractometer. I got mine on ebay, dirt cheap. It's my new favourite toy. Kind of like playing cards with a marked deck.
