Hey everyone I had a question about head tanks. What is a good size for runnin into a 2x3 pan? I know it should be up higher than the evaporator but if you'd like to post pics of your setups to give me a better idea I'd appreciate it. thanks tanner

That looks like it works pretty good how did you get that valve into your tank?

Yeah it works good. The valve is just a PVC ball valve wigth threaded fitting and I used o-rings to seal it.

You could use a 55 gallon drum for a 2x3, I'm using a cage tank for my 2.5x8 and I only put about 150 gallons in it at a time and it works great, when you have the money I would get a stainless on to replace whatever plastic head tank you use

I set up my sugar house this year. We moved here last fall, and the previous owner used to sugar, but had sold his equipment a few years ago so there was a small sugar house with nothing in it. I bought a used 20"x66" wood fired evaporator from Bascom's. I installed a 35 gallon round closed poly tank I bought from them in the rafters with a feed line out the bottom to the evaporator. I setup a line from outside with a water filter I bought at Webb's Plumbing Supply to filter the sap. I use a sump pump plugged into an outlet with a switch on it to get the sap out of my outside tank to the one in the rafters. With the switch inside the building, I can turn it on and off as I need more sap. The 35 gal tank works great feeding the evaporator. I have a light behind the tank that shines threw it so I can easily see the sap level.
