View Full Version : Do I need a Vent under the grate?

I'm almost done my new arch and i'm wondering if I need a vent so air can get under the grate? right now there is no vent below the grate do I need to add one?

Yes, the grate does no good without having air come up through it.

I put a blower in the front of mine where the air draft door is and it blows under the grate:cool:

If you look at the pictures I posted above you will see two tubes on the front of my barrel stove. They are 24 inches long and provide air to the rear of the fire. You might want to do something like that.

Agree with everyone. I built my 2x4 and I put a small circular floor fan directly in front of the door I built to remove ash. You will see a tremendous difference in the boil with the air coming up through the grates.
