I guess it would depend on how your fireox is designed. I used to have a 3X12 and used 8 gph. Made 8 gallons of syrup per hour with 8% concentrate. I couldn't keep sap in the pans if I used any more oil, it just kept splashing over the sides. I see some of the neweer rigs are pushing alot more oil, so there must be a way, I just don't know how efficient they are.

I have a 4x12 and burn about 14 gallons an hour. The burner is a 701 carlin. I think a guy I know has A carlin 701 for sale. let me know if you want me to check.

We have a 4x12 and we use 12 gallon per hour. We have 2 smaller carlin burners that burn 6 gal/hr. It seems to work great. We usually boil around 150gal of sap per hour. Same with us and the RO, with 8% we make around 12-13 gal of syrup per hour.
