I started a new post after reading a couple other posts about some having difficulties with their Hydrometer.
Not all are the same, a fault if you ask me, but still a fact.
I have a Hydrometer that has no numbers, it is self calculating,,,BUT, the syrup must be not above 210 when testing. Here is the link for mine...scroll down to the "Quebec Hydrotherm", I think its called.

It has fooled me a it if I test too hot. Maybe some here need to allow the syrup to cool just a bit before testing.
Maybe re-read the instructions for your individual Hydrometer.
Hopefully this could help a few of us.
