Preheater rinse

Does anyone rinse their preheaters during the season?

My sugar shack is about an hour north and in my hurry to get home I didn't rinse it out with the nice condensate that I threw out before I left. My pan was still slightly steaming and so I wonder if the residual sap that didn't flow out of the drain would cook and become crusty on the inside of the copper.

I know I can run hot water through when I go up next time, but wondered if the hot sap will just take care of itself.

After I'm out of sap I rinse out the head tank I put 5 gallons of water in my head tank and let that run through and flush out the heater. You'll be okay with only one missed rinsing- its still cool outside besides, but I would make sure you rinse it once it starts to get warm out. Sap gets nasty in a hurry over 45-50 degrees.

Thanks, I figured that was probably what I should have done. This weekend I'll do the rinse after we're done.
