My Airablo 600 pressure/recirc pump has a 7.5hp Baldor motor that is making a ton of noise sometimes. I think it's bearing noise. Anyone else ever deal with this? I'm wondering if it can last the season or not. I know with little jet pumps, they can make noise for a long time and keep right on working.

Thanks,
Tim

Interesting- got the same motor on my old Darveau unit. Started it up this year and had an ungodly squeal that went away after bumping it a few times. No excessive heat anywhere, so I'm wondering too....?

Sometime after these motors sit for a while the grease can become dry and clumpy in the bearing and upon start up they can sure make some bearing noise. But if the motor bearing does not quite down you should replace it soon on a down day, hard to find this time of year.On baldor motors i believe if you look on the name plate they will show you the drive end and non drive end bearing sizes.I would pick them up and have on hand for a quick swap out. They are not that hard to replace.Good luck.Don't run to failure as those motors are getting expensive to replace.

We have the same R/O, same motor. I just had the bearings replaced because ours started making noise at the end of last season. We had a guy in Binghamton, NY do it and it was less than $100 and he had the parts in stock. One of the bearing was definitely bad. Much quieter now.

I did give the grease fittings a very slight pump to each. The noise has subsided, but is still noticeable at times. I like the thought of just replacing them during some down time. Really not sure where to begin tearing it apart, though. Maybe I'll see if my local motor expert will make a house call.

Thanks guys.

I have a lathe and I have repaired countless armatures and end-bells because a bearing went bad and was not replaced in time. The race will start to creep in the end bell or the inner race will creep on the armature until it is too loose to just replace bearing. Change the out as soon as you can!

That's an awfully good price. He had to pull the motor off right?

Replace the bearing now! We left ours too long a few years ago and had to replace the entire unit in the middle of the season! Not fun.

No. We pulled the motor off (pretty heavy) and dropped it off to his shop. Bill was $96. We picked it up and I had a friend of mine help me pick it back up to put on top of pump. It took about 2-3 days after I dropped it off. He is a small electric motor shop (does tools, etc.)

How often should I be greasing the bearings?

I've got a little shop near me, too. He quoted me about $250. Hopefully will end up being a lot less. But he did say same day service. I'm hoping to get it done Thursday, as that looks to be the coldest day.

As far as greasing your motor bearings ask the motor shop if they installed shielded or sealed bearings. If they installed sealed bearings they are lubricated and need no greaseing. If they installed shielded bearings use a minimal amount of grease just enough to keep the moisture out of the bearing.I don't think that they installed open bearings. Some baldor motors have grease fittings and no rear bearing retainer to catch the grease and you end up filling the motor full of grease and creating major motor problems.I hope this helps and is not to confusing.

I think I have a bearing problem. It's not a squeal sound, the high pressure pump is just WAY louder that last year. When we first started the high pressure pump this season, the pump wouldn't start. On the second attempt, it did start and it ran and had lots of pressure for 4-5 hours. I have a Lapierre Junior 200 gph unit. This is the forth season we've had it.

Anyone have experience pulling this unit apart? I will try get the motor and pump model in the morning.
